Police at the Criminal Investigations Department have declined to grant bail to the leader of the Alliance Democratic Party, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, brought in for an alleged sexual penetration of a 15 year-old girl.

The leader, accompanied by his lawyers, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai and Ady Macauley turned himself in to the police in the afternoon hours of Tuesday 21st July, to answer to the said allegation after news broke that he had fled his residence.

The ADP leader has spent two nights in police custody after statement was obtained from him in the presence of his lawyers. According to police, he would not be granted bail pending outcome of the investigation because the alleged crime is a felonious offence.

A relative of the 15 year old girl who reported the matter to the police claimed that Kamarainba took the victim to a hotel in Koidu where he was said to have committed the crime.

Though Kamarainba denied lodging in the said hotel where they claimed he committed the act and also denied the allegation, but however maintained that his only relationship with the girl and her father and mother was benevolent.

Sexual penetration of an underage now carries a life sentence if found guilty by law. The law came into force after President Bio declared a state of emergency against rape; and First Lady Fatima Bio advocating for strict enforcement of the law on rape and gender based violence.
