The maiden Female Premier League (FPL) in Sierra Leone under the dynamic and distinguished leadership of the shrewd President of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima, has brought more recognition to the Association in particular and the country at large.


The SLFA Prexy made the disclosure in an interview with the press yesterday Thursday 2nd March, 2023 at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel following his return from the “FIFA Best Awards Ceremony” in Paris, France.

According to Thomas D. Brima, the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has shown utmost impression to SLFA for the maiden female football league in the country during their special meeting in Paris.

The President emphasized that the Female Premier League (FPL) has created a lot of global attention and expressed gratitude to the FPL Board for the magnificent collaboration with SLFA for successful implementation of the league.

“My administration has put the requisite football structures in place for female football, youth and Sierra Leone Premier League to play in the country,” President Brima averred, adding, “We have utilized the FIFA fund judiciously to commence the female football league.”

According to him, the FIFA President is doing his best for underdeveloped countries to match up with developed countries in putting proper football infrastructure in place for football to develop globally with their support, noting that the FIFA President was very enthusiastic about football to play everywhere, which the SLFA President wants to replicate in Sierra Leone in the midst of financial restrictions.

He also spoke about his strides to promote football in the country, notably, female football for Sierra Leone to continue to get the needed global attention in football.

The SLFA President also disclosed that he inherited certain challenges ranging from complaints of female sexual harassment to complaints of referees, adding that he intends to investigate those allegations to know their root causes and proffer lasting solution. He added that he has been able to stabilize the FA that used to be in turmoil with football leagues of all categories playing in the country.
