As Sierra Leoneans go to the polls tomorrow Saturday 24th June, 2023, an opinion poll conducted by this media nationwide has indicated that His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Wonie Bio will emerge with a landslide victory in the presidential election.
In the Southern and Eastern Provinces where support for the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is overwhelmingly great, over 90% of voters we interviewed said they were all going to vote for President Bio to continue with his development strides for five more years, citing the Free Quality Education, rural electrification, road infrastructure and many other development projects impacting their lives.
This medium observed that the SLPP campaign strategy in the Southern and Eastern Provinces locked the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party out of their strongholds in order to protect their votes, especially when majority of the people have vowed to pay APC back for the motherly invectives Adebayor pelted at Southeasterners in the last five years.
President Bio and the SLPP are therefore expected to win overwhelmingly in Bonthe, Moyamba, Pujehun, Bo, Kenema, Kailahun and Kono Districts and the SLPP have been very diligent about it. They are protecting their votes after they learnt a bitter lesson in 2007 and this time they cannot be marched in their preparedness for tomorrow’s elections.
Given the response of respondents in Freetown, Falaba, Karene, Port Loko, Tonkolili, Kambia and Koinadugu, whatever the case, it is expected that SLPP would be more competitive in those areas tomorrow than they were in the 2018 national elections. Freetown used to be the biggest challenge for SLPP but with the strong Mohamed Gento Kamara factor, tomorrow’s results will surprise most Sierra Leoneans as indicated by respondents.
Most of the respondents we interviewed were very much impressed with the Bio Administration because of its inclusive development agenda.
Our findings also indicated that what the main opposition APC perceive as their strongholds have been largely infiltrated by SLPP with many former stalwarts in the APC and their families and followers defecting to the ruling party, including the Resident Minister - Northwest Region, Alhaji Alpha Khan, who is also Presidential Spokesman, erstwhile Chairman of Bombali District Council, Eric Dura Sesay, Kelfala Kargbo aka Kelly of Koinadugu District, and many others in the North.
According to the prediction for President Bio to win with no runoff, out of the 3, 374, 258 voters that registered for tomorrow’s elections, the President will get a total result of 57.94%.
