The governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) mayoral candidate in the just-concluded local council elections in the Freetown Municipality, Mohamed Gento Kamara, has conceded defeat and congratulated the Mayor elect, Yvonne Denise Aki-Sawyer.

Mohamed Gento Kamara’s acceptance of defeat and his congratulatory message to the Mayor elect demonstrated his exemplary leadership that is
worthy of emulation.

He conceded: “After consulting with my family and leaders of my party and in the interest of peace and harmony and for the love of my city, I have decided to NOT contest the skewed results. I know this is difficult news for my many supporters. But this city is greater than any one of us. I urge you all to please remain calm as we seek other avenues of addressing the problems in our city together.”

Many people in the Freetown Municipality started seeing light at the end of the tunnel following the developmental interventions of Mohamed Gento in many deprived communities.

Prior to the June 24 local council elections, many Freetownians were convinced that Mohamed Gento was a God-sent leader who would fix what had been conspicuously absent from a modern city ranging from access to improved water

facilities, reconstruction and rehabilitation of more accessible roads, provision of more street lights, more recreational facilities, microfinance facilities to petty traders, SMEs amongst others. But at the end of the day, the opportunity for

Mohamed Gento to fix the city was denied by the electorate though he gave the Mayor elect a good run for her money.
