The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Julius Madda Bio, being Chairman of the Africa Committee of Ten Heads of State has strongly campaigned for Africa’s permanent representation at the UN Security Council.

Addressing world leaders at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly in the United States of America on Thursday, 27 September 2018, President Bio said, Africa is the only continent that has not got a permanent representation on the Council.

Hence, entreated world leaders to give his request due reflection so that Africans would have the opportunity like others to resourcefully advocate and deliberate on pertinent and touchy issues bordering their continent

He spoke of the democratic transition that brought him to power in April 2018 and his government’s commitment to democratic, peaceful, equitable rule, and called on the country’s international partners to help his government deliver on the election promises made to the people by his New Direction Government.

He furthered called on development partners to help his government deliver on its priorities areas including the Free Quality |Education for the girl child and other school going children, fight against corruption and realization of socio-economic development among others

His government’s commitment, he said, includes opening up the country’s democratic space, strengthening of institutions, creating a favourable environment for private sector investment with the utmost protection through laws and breaking down barriers that had gravely slowed down development of the private sector.

President Bio furthered re-echoed his government commitment for job creation, combating graft and economic wastage as well as enhancing democratic dialogue for a sustainable growth as a nation.

The President took a new twist in luring investors into the country to heighten private sector investment and entrepreneurship, rather continuing to beg for assistance to aid the country’s development.
President Bio also continue to seek for investment in the energy sector as his government is targeting to ensure that by 2030, 60 percent of renewable energy is accessible in rural communities.
