Following hiking prices of essential goods and services that has now posed serious suffering and hardship among huge proportion of the ordinary citizens living on less than a dollar a day, the disgruntled population are now calling on President Bio to sack the Minister of Trade and Industry, Peter Bayuku Conteh.

His display of incompetence over tackling the continued hike in prices of essential commodities, including the price ofbread in the country is now described by many,as an act of sabotage of the President New Direction which aims at enhancing the standard of living of the ordinary people.

Ex- Minister of Labour in the former President Koroma led APC government, now Minister of Trade and Industry in President Bio regime has undoubtedly proved that he lacks the requisite technocratic know-how to devise a durable solution to tackle the widespread increase in prices of essential foodstuffs in the country.

The alarm over skyrocketing food prices that has the proclivity to further subject the masses to squalor and penury was first raised by the public and reechoed by the main opposition All People’s Congress Party.

Peter Bayuku Conteh is viewed by many as the least performing Minister under the New Direction recalling the same ineptitude in the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs during the APC regime which resulted in his resignation for fear of being sacked by ex-President Koroma.

President Bio led SLPP government must not be oblivious of the fact that bread and butter issue played pivotal role in bringing them into power, hence many view this disparaging situation with great concern if appropriate actions are not taken for any unexplained price variation by the traders.

According to the aggrieved masses, government has to set up a committee with the relevant stakeholders to investigate problems leading to rapid increase of prices and make recommendation that would help salvage the situation.
