Like ex-Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission, Dr. Christiana Thorpe who cheekily told the Sierra Leone People’s Party to go to the Police if they felt dissatisfied with the 2012 elections result, her heir, Nfa Alie Conteh, has similarly directed APC to the courtroom, following SLPP’s victory in the hotly contested bye-election in Tonko Limba Chiefdom –Ward 196, Kambia District.

Prior to the announcement of the 2012 presidential runoff election results, SLPP, being the country’s main opposition challenged the result, following allegations of ballot stuffing and intimidation by government functionaries.

Whilst calling on Madam Thorpe to investigate these claims, she brazenly went ahead and declared president Koroma victorious in the presidential polling, amid the many concerns of the opposition.

After which, she cheekily instructed the opposition to go to the police if they felt dissatisfied with the result and conduct of the elections, and few hours later President Koroma was hurriedly sworn in for a second time as president.

Correspondingly, following SLPP’ victory in the Tonko Limba bye-election that has now left the opposition APC further fragmented, her successor, N’fa Alie Conteh, has similarly directed them to go to court if they felt displeased with the results.

Tonko Limba Chiefdom has been an APC traditional stronghold for over 60 years since they had not voted any other party into elective offices other than APC candidates.

In March 2018, the deceased APC councillor, Ibrahim Conteh, won the election with 83%, while the SLPP candidate trailed behind third position with 4.9%. Hence, this first-time crush has sent shockwaves through the spine of the entire party hierarchy who now claim that the elections were rigged.

However, scores of APC supporters have attributed the defeat to the ingratitude showed to the people of Tonko Limba Chiefdom by the former President Koroma led APC government in terms of taking major developments such as roads, access to pipe borne water and other basic amenities to the deprived chiefdom.

The National Reformist Movement strongly pushing for the old guards to quit the helm of affairs had also blamed this shocking defeat on the ineffectiveness of the old guard executive who they say lost their relevance after the party’s humiliating defeat in the March 7 elections.
