The Special Technical Audit carried out on four government sectors in the former President Koroma led All People’s Congress (APC) government has revealed that, more than USD $1 Billion could not be accounted for between the years 2015 to 2018.


Funded by the Department for International Department, (DFID), the audit team which comprised of 50 experts from Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and the Sierra Leone Audit Service found this staggering amount in the various sectors, road, social security, energy and telecoms.

According to the report, the National Telecommunication Commission (NATCOM) should refund $11, 487,101.88; Sierratel-$ 52,692,546.52 and Sierra Leone Cable Limited- 4,072,520.57.

The Ministry of Works and Public Assets - $256,818.18; Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA)- $574,786,562.18; Sierra Leone Housing Corporation (SALHOC) -$559,871.53; Roads Fund Maintenance Administration (RFMA) -$70,513,420.95; Ministry of Energy-$32,505,954.45; Electricity Distribution and Supply

Agency-$139,581,847.92; Electricity Generation and Transmission Company-$ 3, 039,757.51; National Social Security And Insurance Trust (NASSIT)-$147,005,274.66.

The total amount said to have been stolen in these four sectors in just three years was $1, 036,501,676.35.

This startling revelation was divulged by the Minister of Finance; Jacob Jusu Saffa, yesterday at a press briefing at the Ministry’s jam-packed Hall on George Street, Freetown

According to the Finance Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa, these institutions have been given June 30th 2019 as deadline to make refunds or face the law, since the matter has been referred to the appropriate authorities, including the country’s anti-graft agency and Parliament for further action.
