The erstwhile Attorney General and Minister of Justice under Ex-President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s administration, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara Esq., has in his recent tweet advised the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party to seek redress in the court of law over the outcome of the 2023 multitier election results.
The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Tweeted: “As lawyers we owe an ethical duty to represent the best interests of the client. Elections are challenged by petitioning the results before the courts. Any decision by the APC to abandon legal redress is regrettable.”
This clearly explains how the legal luminary would want their party to follow the norms of challenging election results through petition in the Supreme Court.
The erstwhile AGMJ tweeted in no uncertain terms that he was not in support of any decision to express their rejection of election results through the non-participation in the governance of the State.
“The APC declares its non-participation in any level of governance including the legislature and local councils, as the results have already been tampered with to give the SLPP an unjust majority at all levels; the APC unequivocally rejects the announced results of the recently concluded multitier elections in Sierra Leone given the glaring irregularities and violations of established electoral procedures among others,” an APC press release states.
Senior APC stalwarts that spoke to The Satellite were also not in support of the non-participatory decision by their party.
According to them, the party should seek redress in court to express their dissatisfaction with the outcome of the election results.
A cross section of civil society activists that spoke to this medium preferred a political dialogue between the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and APC for the promotion of democracy and good governance.
