The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) will today Wednesday 31st July, 2024 recommence registration exercise for new members and verification of existing members nationwide.
According to the APC press release dated 29th July, 2024, “Upon the approval of the National Advisory Committee (NAC), the National Secretariat shall commence verification of executive members, existing members and registration of new members into the party.”
The verification and registration exercise will commence with a grand launching ceremony that will be held at the APC Headquarters in Freetown today and will be replicated nationwide as scheduled in the press release.
The release further categorized the membership of the party into honorary foundation, patron, honorary executive and ordinary membership with respective application fees and monthly dues.
It also states that application fee for honorary foundation membership is NLe50 and monthly dues NLe100; Patron is NLe50 and monthly dues NLe1000; honorary executive NLe20 and monthly dues NLe100 and ordinary membership NLe10 and monthly dues NLe5.
The release states that the verification or re-registration of all executive members at wards, constituencies, districts, regions, Diaspora, special organs and national levels is expected to last for a period of 90 days after commencement while verification or re-registration of existing members will last for a period of one year from commencement date.
It also noted that registration of new members who will meet the minimum requirements set out in the constitution and guaranteed by a party guarantor will be an ongoing process.
“Following the assumption of the present National Executive, the Secretariat places a moratorium on the registration of members into the party and the payment of membership dues.
This was necessitated by the discrepancies found in the membership database, the temporary registration done by the Interim Transition Governance Committee (ITGC), the duplication of membership registration numbers, a stockpile of unattended membership application forms found at the party office and the proliferation of fake membership cards and subscription receipts” the press release states.
