Residents of Kenema in the Eastern Region at the weekend raised serious concerns over the questionable security situation in the city and called on the government to immediately step up security in the city to restore confidence.

The people of Kenema raised those concerns following the untimely and brutal killing of Rev. Fr. Augustine Dauda Amadu of the Immaculate Conception Parish in the Burma 3 Coomununity, Kenema, on Friday night.

Preliminary reports state that a violent confrontation occurred between Rev. Fr. Amadu and the assailants, which culminated in the killing of the Catholic priest.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the motive of the attack, while Rev. Fr. Amadu's corpse has been taken to the Kenema Government Hospital morgue.

The untimely and brutal killing of Rev. Fr. Amadu left the entire Catholic Mission, and the city of Kenema devastated.
