The National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) has on Friday 17th April, 2020 boosted the Coronavirus fight in Sierra Leone by launching the distribution of fifty (50) Hand Washing Equipment across the country.

The hand washing equipment which comes with buckets and soap for ease of hand washing is the latest Milla Tanks used in public places.

Speaking at the launch held at NATCOM Head Office, Hill Station in Freetown, NATCOM Director General, Daniel Kaitibi disclosed that the objective of the distribution of these hand washing equipment was to save lives in complementing the efforts of President Julius Maada Bio and his New Direction government in the fight against the spread and prevention of the disease. He further promised to work with Local Councils and staff of his institution attached in the provinces in ensuring that the equipment were utilized for its intended purposes in vulnerable communities.

According to him, this was just the beginning of the series of interventions by NATCOM in the fight against the coronavirus in the country.

He said the fight against coronavirus should not be politicized as the disease could affect anyone irrespective of, tribe, religion, political party, rich or poor and region.

He said there was no ready-made vaccine for the virus and therefore the prevention of the spread of the disease stop with the individual himself by upholding the prevention measures.

He promised to work with the Mobile Network Operators to see how they could come in, to help in the fight against the disease.

Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Abass Salieu Kamara reminded the people of Sierra Leone to upkeep the precautionary measures and to adhere to the messages of the health experts.

Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Representative, Emmanuel Abiodun Ogundeyi expressed thanks and appreciation to NATCOM and call on others Ministries, government departments and agencies to follow example in complementing the effort of the government in the fight against the disease.
