PROJECT BACKGROUND
For over forty years, Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) work in Sierra Leone has been guided by the will to promote the alleviation of human suffering, to advance full human development, and to foster charity and justice in the world. Since 2008, CRS in line with the Millennium Development Goals # 2 and 3 and Government of Sierra Leone’s commitment to support basic education for all, has been implementing the Food for Education (FFE) Project with interventions designed to improve quality and relevance of education, encourage complete cycle of primary education for vulnerable, marginalized children, especially girls, and increase community involvement in education. New funding has been approved for the project to be extended for another three years in five chiefdoms of Koinadugu District, in the north of Sierra Leone. The three-year project will benefit nearly 30,000 pupils in five chiefdoms in Koinadugu district namely, Sulima, Mongo, Neini, Neya and Dembelia Sinkunia. CRS/SL will distribute commodities to schools for the preparation of morning snacks and lunches to pupils, teachers and cooks, five days a week for nine months during the school year. The project will also work with local communities, strengthen School Management Committees and foster the formation of Mothers’ Clubs and Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) groups.
Job Summary:
You are required to perform technical oversight in assisting the Construction specialist in the implementation of school infrastructure in the Koinadugu District for quality assurance and effective timely delivery of construction activities.
Eighty percent of time to be spent in the field.
Job Responsibilities:
- The Construction Assistant would be responsible for monitoring and supervising the building technicians work to ensure it is in accordance with the drawings and specification provided by the agency and the workmanship is of good quality.
- The Construction Assistant will be responsible for ensuring mechanisms, put in place by the agency for materials supply for use, are monitored are adhered to on site.
- Report obstacles or difficulties which will retard the progress of the work in a timely manner to the Construction Specialist.
- Submit weekly written status reports on construction activities for each assigned site; provide more urgent updates through WhatsApp or over the phone.
- Be present for the delivery of building materials at assigned sites; ensure all building materials supplied are kept safe and properly stacked.
- The Construction Assistant will be responsible to report in written or oral any form of diversion of building materials from the site(s), to the local authorities, CRS staff.
- All construction sites must be visited at least once a week

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum of 1-year work experience desired in supporting procurement/purchasing, logistics, and/or administration processes and activities. New college graduates considered.
- Good writing skills.
- Knowledge of local market conditions.
- Knowledge in MS Office package (Excel and Word).
