The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Free Quality School Education (FQSE) Secretariat at the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) have conducted a nationwide joint verification or assessment exercise ahead of the implementation of a project aimed at promoting President Julius Maada Bio's human capital development endeavours through the Free Quality Education Scheme.
The project, funded by China Aid and aimed at improving public educational facilities in specific chiefdoms and schools in all sixteen districts in the country, costs almost US$ 2,000,000.00 and is expected to be implemented within a one-year time frame.
Representing the MBSSE and the UNDP as team leads during the verification exercise were Augustine Moses Koroma, National Programme Coordinator at the FQSE Secretariat, and Madam Ndeye Aminata Diop in that order.
Commenting on the project, Mr. Koroma said the project will ensure the provision or supply of sets of tables and chairs in the quantity realm of 10,000 to specific schools nationwide.
He said the project seeks to promote or enhance quality and to reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Sierra Leone, through the
MBSSE and donor partners, to pursuing the human capital development aspirations of President Bio.
"This project, when fully implemented, will be a huge gamechanger to the FQSE," Mr. Koroma said.
It could be recalled that in August 2018, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio rolled out the FQSE as his government's flagship project.
The scheme has since grown in leaps and bounds, receiving national and international acclamation, increasing enrolment in schools, supporting pupils with food, and providing teaching and learning materials.
