A senior official in the Ministry of Finance has told this press that under the leadership of the new Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa, the ministry is working out modalities to put in place very stringent punitive measures against public officials that misuse subventions to the Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The official said, Bio administration does not favor the previous executive and parliament’s lackadaisical attitude towards scrutinizing of findings and recommendations made by the Auditor General’s Office in its annual report that year after year unearthed alarming expropriation and misuse of funds by all the MDAs with nothing done to bring the culprits to book.

This, he said, was the main reason why the former government incurred the huge budget deficit debts that it left behind.

The Finance Ministry official was seemingly quoted as saying, “we are fully aware of the unholy transaction that went on between Parliamentary and MDAs to cover up financial crimes of corrupt public officials, with the press left totally in the dark.

He warned that, President Bio must not be complacent, even after appointed men and women of integrity and sincerity to man the different MDAs, but must beware that the “spoilers” that fed fat on the riches of the people are still ensconced in their different positions waiting to do business as usual at the detriment of the states and its long-suffering masses.

Meanwhile, under the Bio administration, both the Speaker and his Deputy have vowed that the Auditor General’s Report will no longer be treated with levity, and that the various Oversight Committees will be prodded to take their monitoring and supervision of the MDAs with great seriousness and intent.
