Following a strike action at Sierratel recently, some aggrieved workers have demanded rigid and complete administrative reforms in the entire management and in the process also accused the Managing Director, Edward Sesay, of sidelining and discriminating against workers perceived as anti APC supporters.

Some aggrieved workers interviewed by this press said, the strike action was staged to vent out their frustration over the appalling state of staff welfare, unprecedented cutting down of facilities, the biased and political nature with which staffs are made permanent and political harassment and intimidation of staffs during the previous government.

They further claimed newly recruited staffs believed to be APC that had worked with the institution for just five years were permanent, blatantly ignoring those that merited it, having spent over 15 years, still languishing in contracts for political reasons, coupled with the creation of the Chief positions with over-bloated salaries relatively compared to other management staff.

Though the Chief position is against the Act, since it only makes provision for Directors, the Managing Director, Edward Sesay, went ahead using his political connection in the past government and created the positions with very lucrative salaries at the displeasure of other management staff.

They also claimed that the contract of the Managing Director officially came to an end on June 4th this year, but still continues to stay in office at the detriment of workers and an institution that is virtually crumbling on a daily basis.

Accusations are that, since the acting Managing Director was appointed by the erstwhile government to serve as Managing Director while serving as deputy, he allegedly closed his previous office as a last resort pending confirmation.

This press made reasonable efforts via text messages on his personnel mobile phone on 076200200, as well visited his office on several occasions to have his own side of the story but to no avail.
Meanwhile, these distressed workers are now calling for immediate investigations into these allegations as the present division between management and staff has the proclivity to wreck the smooth and efficient operations of Sierratel. Investigations continue.
