Sources close to the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change Party have confirmed to this press that the party’s executive is currently engaged in searching for a leader to succeed its decade-long leader, Charles Francis Margai who is set to quit active politics for an advisory role

Though, Mr. Margai is yet to officially announce his retirement, sources said, he has informed the body that he wants to retire and remain as an adviser and that his decision has absolutely nothing to do with his dismissal from government from his short-lived appointment as Attorney General and Minister of Justice

Many opine that Mr. Margai’s political career has reached its twilight, with the PMDC having sunk from the heights it attained in the 2007 elections to the point where it has lost a vast majority of its membership to other political parties.

They said, with the rise of new more powerful and influential political parties like the National Grand Coalition and Coalition for Change, it is high time, Mr. Margai calls it a day and hand over the leadership of his party to a younger generation of vibrant dynamic leaders ahead of 2023 elections.

Whereas political pundits say, his decision may not be unconnected with his unexpected dismissal as Attorney General and Minister of Justice from the President Bio led SLPP government.

On his dismissal, the sources alleged that his unpredicted replacement is not unconnected with his adamant and persistent move to institute a commission of enquiry dated fifteen years back, which to the President smirked of vendetta.

Another reason advanced for Mr. Margai’s dismissal is that he was loose cannon who did not wait for instructions from the President.

It could be recalled that, the short-lived country’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Charles Margai was in April this year appointed by President Bio and suddenly replaced by Dr. Priscilla Schwartz within a month by a terse paragraph from State House.
