Even those who initially thought that the Government’s Commissions of Inquiry into the activities of the former President Koroma led All People’s Congress (APC) government was a witch hunt are now expressing total shock at the indescribable financial revelations being made.

From the revelations about the 20 ambulances that were bought for the fight against the deadly Ebola outbreak to the millions of United States dollars overpriced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security in the purchase and distribution of fertilizers.

And the Le7.8 Billion obtained in the form of safe and unsecured loans by former government officials written off by the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank.
With these outrageous revelations, Sierra Leoneans are waking to the reality that President Koroma government did not handle state finances responsibly.

Furthermore, Sierra Leoneans are impressed by the amount of money that has been recovered from corrupt former government officials by the Anti Corruption Commission in less than a year President Bio took over governance. .

As such, whether ultimately found guilty of corruption or not, many well meaning Sierra Leoneans have stated that, the Commissions of Inquiry and the ACC are helping to take Sierra Leone in the right direction of probity, transparency and accountability a vital first step towards national development financed largely from internally generated public funds.

James Bangura, a recent political science honors class graduate asked: “Why should a responsible government allow all this to happen?”
Henry Turay, an Economics graduate said: “Whether politician, civil servant or public servant, when I heard about the quantum of money that was misused, it makes me to firmly believe that, that is what caused the ruin of the economy and damnation of the people.”

In the Diaspora, Sierra Leoneans beyond politics, tribe and region have expressed gratitude for the COIs with many hopeful, that they can now see a better Sierra Leone emerging out of the debris of the COIs.
