The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) last Thursday 8th February, 2024 awarded twenty Four (24) compliant institutions for their outstanding compliance in making prompt payments for their employees’ 10% monthly social security contributions, exemplary adherence to regulations, and fostering the culture of integrity and responsible business practices.

The hall broke into rapturous applauses as the compliant institutions were recognized with their compliant awards thereby creating a euphoric atmosphere and commitment to ethical standards.
Speaking at the Banquet and Awards Night, the NASSIT Director General, Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, said the awards night was introduced into the operations of the Scheme in 2019 as an annual event with the objective of pursuing good relationship and partnership with their esteemed employers as well as deepening their understanding of the Scheme.
He said that the issue of employers’ award is testament to their commitment to pursuing a culture of excellence, accountability within the social security space.
According to the DG, the prestigious accolade recognizes employers who have demonstrated exemplary dedication to fulfilling their legal obligations to NASSIT.
“The 24 compliant recipients are not the only complaint institutions this year, there are many more compliant institutions across the country, but only 24 institutions were selected based on stringent policy criteria which include prompt registration of all employees with the NASSIT Scheme, correct declaration and deduction of their employees’ earning, prompt and regular payment of social security obligation, and timely submission of accurate contributions schedules,” Mr. Daboh averred.
As NASSIT bestows honour on deserving recipients, the DG said they celebrate their outstanding achievements in upholding the principles of social security compliance and promote the wellbeing of their employees.
He furthered that the purpose of the banquet goes beyond exchange of pleasantry; it serves as a platform to recognize the invaluable contributions towards the realization of shared vision of social security and economic prosperity for all citizens.
Mr. Daboh underscored the significance of their obligations to the Scheme and, most importantly, to the wellbeing of their employees.
He said the employers play a critical role in ensuring that their social security coverage and safeguard of their rights to a dignified retirement and financial stability.
In his keynote speech, the Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swarray recalled that the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) led Government of the late erstwhile Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah established NASSIT in 2000 as Sierra Leone first National Pension Scheme.
The Minister averred that the Scheme has now become the beacon of hope to all employees upon the occurrence of any of the prescribed contingencies: Retirement, Invalidity and Survivors’ Benefits.
Mr. Swaray therefore reminded employers that the NASSIT Act of 2001 made it mandatory for them to pay 10% social security contribution for their employees, noting that the annual awards’ night is continuation of NASSIT’s information dissemination on compliance drive to all employers nationwide.
